The protocol for the implementation of a pilot project entitled 'BSmartMob' was signed today, 26 April, which will allow the creation of a section of intelligent road, especially for pedestrians and cyclists, in an area of ??about 1 Km between the Rotunda Santos da Cunha and the Rotunda of the Train Station of CP.
The innovations in this street include, among other aspects, energy production from the ground, a zone of coexistence with indication of the path of intelligent lights, zone of charge of the electric bicycles, system of monitoring of traffic 3D, crosswalks, humps and smart traffic lights.
It is a project of about five million euros that was submitted to the Urban Innovative Actions, a line of direct financing of the European Union, and which counts with the participation of the Iberian International Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), the University of Minho (UM), Computer Graphics Center (CCG) and business partners - NOS, Siemens, UOU and SERNIS.
The result of the submitted application will be known until the end of this year, followed by a period of one and a half years for laboratory technology tests and a subsequent period, from 6 months to a year, for the effective implementation in the field .
The achievement of this project will allow, according to Miguel Bandeira, councilman of the Municipality of Braga, to create the 'most intelligent Rune of the country'. "It is a project whose main differentiating feature is that it brings together the excellent research of INL, CCG and UM research centers, in the case of ALGORITMI and CTAC, with the innovative products of the associated companies. This junction between research and technology, applied experimentally in a territory that we can consider a living laboratory, will certainly allow the creation of innovative solutions, which may in the future have a wider scope, "he said.
Ricardo Rio, president of the Braga Municipal Council, said that this is another step in the effort made by the Municipal Executive to 'sail through seas never before navigated'.
"The project is in line with the strategic priorities it has undertaken to promote sustainable mobility in the territory, to implement a more intelligent management of the City and to promote networking among Municipalities, research institutions and business partners to find cutting-edge solutions that come to Improve the quality of life of the population and, at the same time, have very positive economic implications for the County, "concluded the Autarca.
